Silver Lake Potholes

Starting at the Silver Fork of the American River these amazing water-filled potholes were scooped out of the polished granite by water and silt. Today it's a perfect place to swim - the mounds of smooth rock protecting the pools in which people wade through. To get there try this 1.50 mile, out-and-back trail near Kit Carson, California. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 36 minutes to complete. The best times to visit this trail are March through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
