Slab City probably made its most famous appearance in Sean Penn's "Into the Wild" and was portrayed as a free community of retirees traveling by motorhome. You'll want to do as the snowbirds do - only come here during the winter. Summertime temperatures can reach an unbearable 120°F. Nearby attractions include the Salton Sea and East Jesus.
