Star Wars Canyon

Also know by its less hawkish moniker, Rainbow Canyon, this Death Valley location was so nicknamed because its neutral hues and barren mountains resemble the fictitious planet Tatooine. However, it doubles as a nod to the real-life action that takes place - with combat aircraft and fighter pilots training in the canyon since World War II. You'll park at the same lot as the Father Crowley Overlook from which Rainbow Canyon is about 1/4 of a mile. As part of Death Valley National Park, it's open 24/7.
