Description:

Tharp's Log is a famous tree stump located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park. It's named after Hale Tharp, a pioneer who discovered the area in the late 19th century. Tharp's Log is a hollowed-out section of a giant sequoia tree that was used by Hale Tharp as a shelter during his time in the forest. Tharp was one of the first non-Native Americans to explore the Giant Forest and he was so taken with the area that he built a small cabin within the log. The cabin was used as a summer retreat for Tharp and his family for many years.
