Description:
Set against the backdrop of Monterey Bay, this monument pays tribute to the people who put this place on the map. Naturally, John Steinbeck, who wrote his eponymous novel in 1945, is represented here. Other characters include humanitarian Dora Flood, marine biologist Ed Ricketts, and the Chinese fishermen and cannery workers who helped build this waterfront street through hard labor. Sculptor Stephen Whyte created this monument which was dedicated in 2014. For the convenience of visitors there's an accompanying audio that gives the history behind the figures depicted.
