Description:

Situated on a six-acre triangular plot north of Woodside Road and west of the County Road (now El Camino Real), Union Cemetery stands as one of the oldest burial grounds in San Mateo County. Despite its official closure in 1918, the cemetery continued to serve as a paupers' field under Redwood City administrators for years. Throughout the Depression era, individuals facing financial constraints persisted in interring their loved ones within its grounds. Presently recognized as a California Historic Landmark and included in the National Register of Historic Places.
