Description:
Near this very spot, there once stood the Historic Town of Jacksonville, CA. It was settled by Julian Smart in 1849 and named after Colonel A.M. Jackson. By 1850, it became the main town along the river, attracting thousands of miners who worked the rich Tuolumne River bed. Sadly, the town now lies underwater due to the reservoir.
