Tivoli Bar & Grill, founded in 1885 in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter, began as a simple saloon in a building that once housed a boarding house, feed store, and blacksmith shop dating back to 1864. Inside, visitors can still see original features such as the wooden bar, an old cash register, and the bar’s early safe, all of which preserve its nineteenth century character. Over the years Tivoli became a favorite hangout for sailors, gamblers, and locals from the once rough Stingaree district. Today it is known for classic bar comfort food like burgers, fries, hot dogs, and pizza along with its laid back, historic atmosphere.
