Description:

San Diego has long been a Navy and Marine town. At the Naval Training Center in Point Loma, the USS Recruit was built in 1949 on solid ground as a mock war vessel for practice. It's a 2/3 scale replica of a destroyer and now sits abandoned on a strip of land amidst shops and restaurants. "Decommissioned" in 1997 due to budget cuts she has been the subject of many fruitless plans. She remains a fascinating relic of maritime history in America at the start of the Cold War.
