Description:

Also known as "Quebec libre!" this giant fountain sculpture was crafted by its namesake, Armand Vaillancourt. The Canadian artist hailed from Quebec, hence its nickname. The fountain, with its geometric lines and plenty of 90-degree angles was quite progressive in 1971 when it was built. A little known fact - the fountain, due to the high cost of its water usage, was almost doomed to be destroyed. However, financing by private donations saved it from destruction. Wealthy philanthropists are the reason why this fountain still stands today. (Submitted by Teresa Ellison)
