Wawona Covered Bridge

A nice hike though this area takes you back in time when simple, quaint structures like this covered bridge provided a safe way to cross the Merced River. Although the bridge is old (built in the 19th century), the structure is sound, having been repaired numerous times over the decades. Nearby are some other historic structures such as a century-old Wells Fargo building, a blacksmith, and an old jail. You can bring a picnic; there are bathroom facilities, a gas station, and a general store. (Submitted by Southern California)
