Description:

During the late 1800s, Wawona held the distinction of being the largest stage stop in Yosemite. Travelers seeking respite from bumpy journeys along uneven dirt roads would stop at the Wawona Hotel before continuing their 8-hour trip to Yosemite Valley. For any stagecoaches in need of repairs before embarking on the 16-hour roundtrip journey, the Grey Barn, managed by the Washburns, proprietors of the Wawona Hotel, served as a dedicated repair facility.
