Whaler’s Cove

As the name suggests whaling was a part of the history of this area. In the 1800s, whaling and fishing were carried out by The Carmel Whaling Company and the Japanese Whaling Company. The old cabin in which these whalers and fisherman lived is still on site. Today, the cabin is a historical museum along with the adjacent Whaling Station Museum. Now a preserve, the kelp forests of Whaler's Cove are the perfect sanctuary for sea otters, seals, and other marine creatures. You might want to plan on parking further away and walking in as onsite parking is very limited. Hours are from 8 AM to 7 PM every day with last entry granted at 6:30 PM.
