Description:
The ghost town of Animas Forks is located 12 miles northeast of Silverton in San Juan County, Colorado. The Bureau of Land Management manages the area which operates as a tourist attraction.The remaining town structures were stabilized in 1997 and 1998 and the townsite was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. The restoration of buildings occurred in 2013-2014 and, now, entry into the 9 standing buildings is unrestricted. The oldest building on site is the jail.
