The Golden Burro Cafe and Lounge began in 1934 as Roy’s Lunch, later taking the name Golden Burro in 1938 before moving into its historic 1898 building on Leadville’s Harrison Avenue in 1945. Over the years it became a beloved gathering place for locals, miners, and travelers and it was recently restored and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2023. Today the cafe is known for hearty comfort food with popular dishes such as breakfast burritos, pancakes, enchiladas, fajitas, and its well loved mushroom bacon cheeseburger.
