This former gold mine in Gilpin County, Colorado, is a tourist attraction in and near town that was the results of local residents as well as the Hidee Gold Mine company who worked together to recreate the history of mining near Black Hawk, Colorado. Tours of the mine explain methods of mining used in the past and present. During the tour, tourists are allowed to stop at an ore vein and chip away using a single jack (one-handed hammer.) Tourists are allowed to keep that gold chip as a souvenir.
