Mile-High Steps

Determining the exact elevation at the State Capitol has been a challenge. Different steps were designated as the mile-high point over the years. The 15th step held the title until 1969 when the 18th step was identified. In 2003, the 13th step was confirmed as the correct benchmark. The difference between the steps is due to a change in the measuring standard.
