This Museum and Community Center are located completely underground. The museum includes many displays, some of which include real mining equipment. The Community Center is great for meetings and parties and it features a large kitchen, fully stocked bar, bathroom facilities, and nearly 10,000-square feet of floor space. The Underground Mine museum was blasted out of solid rock cliff by three Creede miners and construction began in 1990. Tours began in 1992 and over 20,000 people have visited since then. Tours are led by led by retired miners who explain the equipment and mining methods. You'll also learn about blasting, mucking, and assaying. A self-guided CD tour is also available.
