Description:
Connecticut has its own Newgate Prison (England had a Newgate that was used for 700 years), built in the early 1800s. It was not only the first state prison in CT, it was the first state prison in the U.S. As you can imagine, the conditions were deplorable, and there were probably many who met a nasty death there and in the adjacent copper mine. Nowadays, it has a reputation for being haunted, which attracts ghost hunters to the site.
