Fort DeRussy

This fort was built in 1861 as the Civil War loomed ahead and was used to defend the nation's capital from the seceders in the South. Now obscured by forest growth the site is yet a favorite area for hikers. You can catch glimpses of the old fort and its weaponry through the thickly wooded area.
