Created by Chinese sculptor Lei Yixin in 2011, this statue of the American Civil Rights Movement hero, Martin Luther King, Jr., is the first African-American figure to be placed on the National Mall. Here he has been properly commemorated beside other American greats such as Lincoln and Roosevelt. The official dedication took place on October 16, 2011 with a keynote address by President Barack Obama.
