Thomas Jefferson Memorial

This white neoclassical building sponsored by FDR and designed by John Russell Pope was inspired by the Roman Pantheon. Although it seems this domed structure has been here for eternity, it was completed in 1943, thus becoming an integral part of the capital's landscape. The interior is adorned with Jefferson quotes and excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. (Submitted by Jimmy Olsen)
