Description:

Discovery Island was located in Walt Disney World’s Bay Lake. It opened as a lush zoological park but after closing it was left in a state of decay even though Disney had some great ideas on how to reopen the attraction. The original name of this attraction was "Treasure Island" but was renamed "Discovery Island" to reflect all of the fauna visitors could discover! The island also was home to a number of animals including lemurs and giant tortoises, as well as a number of rare bird species such as the scarlet ibis, flamingos, and cranes. Upon closing, all animals were moved to the Animal Kingdom. Today the abandoned island remains off limits to all visitors.
