Fort Clinch

Fortifications in this area began in 1736 but Fort Clinch wasn't built until 1847. The young republic had just ended the War of 1812 a couple of decades before and felt the need to strengthen the coastline. The fort isn't the only attraction here - a beautiful beach, camping, bike trails, and a gift shop too! The park is open from 8 AM to sunset, but the fort has different hours - 9 AM to 5 PM. Parking is $6 per vehicle.
