The Gulf Breeze Zoo is a 50-acre zoo located in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The zoo faced financial troubles in beginning in 2004 and closed in 2009. In December 2009, the zoo was purchased by Virginia Safari Park of Natural Bridge, Virginia and was reopened on February 18, 2010, as Gulf Breeze Zoo. Many animals that include primates, big cats, marsupials, tortoises, and birds can be seen through the zoo gardens leading to a large petting area, a giraffe feeding station, and a walk-through parakeet enclosure. Other exhibits in the park include Rocky the red river hog, black bears, a flying fox, otters, an alligator, and camels. There's also a raised boardwalk which allows visitors to view herds of deer, antelope, and emu. The zoo also has a miniature train that takes visitors on a 20-minute guided tour to see where impala, deer, antelope, zebras, white rhinos, gorillas, and Nile hippos.
