Description:

This drive through safari park is located in Loxahatchee in Palm Beach County, Florida. The Lion Country Safari was founded in 1967 and it claims to be the first cageless zoo in the United States. The original park consists of over 1,000 animals with paved roadway running throughout. This is a drive thru park where some animals like giraffes are allowed to roam freely across the roads. Other animals such as the lions and chimpanzees are segregated behind fences or water barriers. The Lion Country Safari also serves as a retirement facility for chimps once used in research laboratories and entertainment. After a drive through the park, visitors can visit the Safari World theme park and the amusement park with a ferris wheel, a petting zoo, a small water park, and a giraffe-feeding exhibit.
