Description:

A nearby power plant warms the winter waters, attracting heat-seeking manatees. These gentle mammals, often nicknamed mermaids, slowly make their way from northern Florida to the Indian River Lagoon during the late fall and winter months. Although the center is open year-round, manatee sightings are usually only in the winter. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop, which sells unique local and handcrafted items.
