Description:
Sawgrass Recreation Park, originally a fishing camp, evolved over 30 years into a one-boat airboat attraction in the 1970s, and later became one of South Florida’s top destinations by the new millennium. In 2005, after Hurricane Wilma, the Soverns family acquired the park. They expanded exhibit areas to accommodate more rescued reptiles and mammals and enhanced community relations by offering an annual scholarship to a local student and partnering with local schools to educate about the Florida Everglades.
