Unconditional Surrender

Almost everyone knows of the WW2 Sailor who was home on leave when he heard that the war was over. That's when he instinctively grabbed for the first nurse he saw on the street. He had seen how the nurses helped all the wounded during the war and he was so overcome with emotion that he had to give her a hug and a great big kiss! Someone snapped this iconic picture of the two which was published in Life Magazine and that's what the Big Smooch Statue depicts. The statue traveled from Sarasota, Florida in 2005 to San Diego, California in 2006 just as the Floridians were getting used to it. Now the world's largest random embrace is back in Sarasota and many hope it's for good!
