Description:
The Mary Willis Library in Washington, Georgia, opened in 1889 as the first free public library in the state. This stunning red-brick Gothic Revival building, with its signature stained-glass windows created by Tiffany Studios, was a gift from Dr. Francis T. Willis in memory of his daughter, Mary. Beyond its architectural beauty, the library has served as a center for education and community engagement for over a century, preserving its historic charm while adapting to modern needs. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
