Description:
So why is there an 8-foot-tall cowboy boot in Waimea? Well, besides the fact that it’s a terrific piece of public art beloved by locals, it was a gift celebrating Waimea’s 2008 Centennial Celebration from Waimea’s sister city—Cheyenne, Wyoming. The pair of cities are “sisters” because they share a similar history as ranch towns, and this history is proudly depicted in pictorial form on the big boot. Another 8-foot boot stands tall in Cheyenne, both sculptures created by artist Ross Lampshire who has also made several others on commission. Apparently, his renowned boots also come in a size 6 (6 feet, that is).
