Description:
The Kohala Historical Sites State Monument in North Kohala features two significant landmarks: Mo'okini Heiau, a 1,500-year-old sacrificial temple, and the birthplace of Kamehameha the Great, who unified Hawaii's chiefdoms. Accessible via a dirt road from Upolu Airport, it's about 1.5 miles off the Akoni Pule Highway, near Hawi town. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is advisable, especially in adverse weather.
