Mauna Kea Observatory

Mauna Kea is renowned for its many independent observatories that dot the landscape. This area is favored for stargazing due the absence of city lights, the clear skies and atmosphere, and its close proximity to the equator. This is one of the few places in the world where you can drive in two-hours time from sea level to 14,000 feet. If you want to complete this trek, you must have a four-wheel drive car and hopefully no issues with altitude sickness!
