In the state of Hawaii along Nā Pali Coast on Kauai is a trail that has been named one of the most beautiful and dangerous trails in the United States. The Kalalau Trail spans approximately 11 miles from Ke'e Beach to the Kalalau Valley along the island's north shore.
For the professional hiker, the 22-mile trek can take a day, but for the casual hiker, the trail averages a two-day minimum hike with camping along the route. Featured along the Kalalau Trail is the Hanakoa Falls, one of the two well-named waterfalls featured on the Kalalau Trail. The Hanakoa Falls is much taller, however, than Hanakapi'ai Falls and it is said that the falls can top 1,000 feet in height. Unfortunately, the trail to Hanakoa Falls is not well maintained and may be a challenge to follow.
