Holoholoku Heiau

A fascinating part of Hawaiian history, Holoholoku Heiau is where unfortunate prisoners of war or those who had committed a terrible faux pas (e.g., walking in the shadow of the chief) were either executed or sacrificed a thousand or more years ago. In more recent history the wife of Kaumuali'i raised pigs on the site, eschewing the religions of old. Ironically, the heiau is near the Royal Birthstone, Pohaku Ho'ohanau.
