How do you gain access to the most remote and secluded beach in Kauai? There's no road or even a hiking trail that leads to Honopu (or Cathedral) Beach on Kauai's Na Pali Coast. Is there no other legal way to get there except to swim? There may be. Read on.
Attempting to get to this remote beach is an adventure in itself. The swimming route requires expert swimming skills and there are dangers from rip currents. During the summer months, some say it's possible to walk from the neighboring Kalalau Beach on exposed rocks and sand along the cliffs to Honopu Beach.
Behind Hopopu Beach are high sea cliffs separated by the Honopu arch. A large waterfall around the corner cascades down the sea cliff and through the arch into the ocean. (BTW, Honopu means "conch shell" and when northerly winds blow into the valley the arch emits a conch sound.)
