Description:
The 2018 Kauai flood closed the Wai Koa Loop Trail because of rain and flood damage, but fortunately The Hawaiian Islands Land Trust stepped in and allowed access to the Stone Dam and became the guardian of the dam and the land. With flat terrain and a 4.5-mile loop, this low-to-moderate hike currently doesn't loop but goes from the North Shore Dog Park to the Stone Dam and back, for a total of about 3 miles. This trail leads you through pastures and the Kilauea forest and its large mahogany plantation. Your payoff for completing your first mile and a half is the famed Stone Dam, built in the 1800s by the Kilauea Sugar Plantation.
