The Church at Koloa

This charming, picture-perfect white church with the quintessential steeple was built in 1859. Before then the parishioners worshipped in one of the thatched houses of the village. Because this was one of the only churches in Kauai, people came from miles away, often on foot or by horseback, in order to worship. In 1837, a small chapel was built on the same site, but was torn down to make way for the current structure. Some of the original timber of Ohia Hawaiian wood still supports the church.
