Waioli Huiia Church

Not only did American missionaries bring the Christian faith and U.S. culture to the islands during the 19th Century, but they also introduced new architectural styles as well, oftentimes mixing Hawaiian techniques with New England-style craftsmanship. This lovely little church with gothic-style arched windows framing expertly crafted stained glass was established in 1834, and was named a National Historic Landmark for its architectural importance and historical cultural significance. Amazingly, Waioli Huiia Church has maintained a continuous record of holding worship services since 1834. In 1992, the church was separated from its foundations by Hurricane Iniki, but it has since been fully repaired and restored.
