Hike, camp, or make a short stop at an amazing location. This remote, otherworldly landscape is a great place for viewing the sunrise. Perhaps you need to escape the tropical heat - the summit is at least 20 degrees cooler than at sea level and can often dip below freezing. The rich colors of the chiseled cinder landscape are a product of volcanic and glacial activity - and today this is the native habitat for many Hawaiian plants and animals. Bring food, water, and a warm windbreaker to make your trip here as pleasant as possible.
