Honolua Bay is where serious surfers come to play. Renowned for its powerful surf and huge tubular waves during the winter months, this is definitely not the time nor place for novices. However, you can hike to the bluffs above for a terrific view of experienced surfers in action. During the summer when waters are calm and clear, Honolua Bay boasts some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in Maui, as it’s part of the Mokuleia Life Conservation District—which means that it’s got plenty of fascinating coral formations and tropical fish in its waters. There isn’t much by way of sand (the shore here is mostly rock) so the bay isn’t ideal for spreading a blanket and laying out, so prepare for a day of in-water activities and/or simply taking in the beautiful views.
