Description:

This cultural museum is the former home of mid 19th century missionary (and accomplished painter) Edward Bailey and his family. Built in 1833, the “Old Bailey House” is the one of the first western-style dwellings in Wailuku, and the building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The museum features Hawaiian artifacts from times of pre-European contact, beautiful oil landscape paintings by former resident Edward Bailey, a model of an ancient Polynesian voyaging canoe, and more. The grounds also feature a garden with native Hawaiian plants including some rare and endangered species unique to Maui. Locally handcrafted items are also available in the museum’s gift shop.
