The Pipiwai Trail is about four miles to and fro and it takes nearly 2-4.5 hours to complete, depending upon the hiker. There are several places on the trail to take great pictures, including a waterfall and the 137-year-old banyan tree that towers over almost an acre of downtown Lahaina. It is the most significant such tree in the United States, making it an iconic photo opp on Maui. The tree is imposing, leaving a footprint the size of a decent size house with roots and branches expanding continually outward. This trail can be dangerous at times, so be aware of flash flooding and sudden rock falls.
