Description:

Sadly, this attraction burned in the tragic Maui wildfires in August 2023. In an act of remembrance, we have chosen to retain it in the app as a tribute to the victims' memory and a gesture of respect to the storied and historic Lahaina Town. #LahainaStrong

This historic Temple in Lahaina was built in 1912 by the Wo Hing Society, a fraternal organization formed by Lahaina’s Chinese immigrants whose presence in the community preceded the arrival of the whalers and missionaries. After decades of being in a state of disrepair, the building was finally renovated in 1983, and it now operates as a museum. Inside, you’ll find photos, artifacts, and other memorabilia about the lives of early Chinese immigrants in Hawaii. Also, of particular universal interest is the Thomas Edison Exhibit that features a number of silent movies set in Hawaii that the renowned inventor himself shot during the early 1900s.
