Robert William Wilcox (a.k.a. the Iron Duke of Hawaii) was a Hawaiian revolutionary who led two rebellions (albeit unsuccessful) against King Kalākaua (during the Kingdom era) and against the Repubilc of Hawaii under the leadership of Sanford Dole—known today as the Wilcox Rebellions. He later became a politician when he was elected as first delegate to the US Congress for the Territory of Hawaii. His patriotism is still celebrated by Hawaiians to this day, evidenced by this bronze statue designed by Jan Gordon Fisher that stands in Wilcox Park, a public park dedicated to the Iron Duke on the centennial of the Wilcox Rebellion of 1889.
