In the '70s, Evel Knievel attempted to jump the mile-wide gorge of the Snake River Canyon. Although he survived with only a broken nose he failed in his endeavor. No one cared that his dream didn't come to fruition - everyone loved his courageous, stalwart spirit. This indeed is what he is most famous for.
