Description:
This laboratory is far from civilization for good reason. Although it is an oasis in the middle of a vast desert, this lab was established in 1949 as a National Reactor Testing Station. Much of the 890-square-foot compound may be off-limits to visitors but the tours do include the areas where scientists examine fuels and structural materials with robotic arms.
