Standing 101 feet tall, this steel sculpture is shaped like a bat upended on its knob. It was commissioned by the United States General Services Administration in 1977 and carried out by sculptor Claes Oldenburg. It has often been the subject of controversy with many clamoring for its removal. The latticed-steel sculpture's place is in front of the Social Security Administration building.
