Cairo Living Ghost Town

Cairo (pronounced CARE-oh by locals) is paradoxically called a living ghost town. Part of it is inhabited and thriving while a small section of it is fading away, with unused buildings and homes slowly crumbling. History took place here, though. The Underground Railroad, civil unrest and segregation, and even Al Capone as a fugitive were events witnessed by this abandoned part of town. (Photo by Katie Kemper)
