In Starved Rock State Park is a narrow gorge with naturally beveled walls. The bottom of the gorge is filled with a shallow pool of water fed by a trickling waterfall from above. In winter, this waterfall freezes which gives you the impression that time is standing still. This is a moderately paced hike but it is well-marked with paths and stairs and much of the distance is underneath a cool shade.
